About Us
Scotland’s Largest SWI Community
Largs SWI is a vibrant, welcoming and award-winning women’s organisation built around friendship, creativity, lifelong learning and community connection.
Award-Winning Growth and National Recognition
Established in May 2023 and holding our inaugural meeting in September 2023, Largs SWI has experienced extraordinary growth in a remarkably short time and is now proudly recognised as the largest Scottish Women’s Institute in Scotland, with over 62 full members and a growing number of visitors regularly joining our meetings and events.
Our success has been recognised nationally by Scottish Women’s Institutes, where we were awarded both the Barbara Brookshire Trophy for achieving the highest number of new members nationally, and the Retson Family Trophy recognising exceptional membership growth.
Creativity, Learning and New Experiences
Since launching, Largs SWI has built an exciting and diverse programme of activities designed to inspire, connect and empower women of all ages. From creative workshops, sewing, yarn and crochet clubs, guest speakers, wellbeing sessions and social events, to community exhibitions, educational programmes and fully funded learning opportunities, there is always something happening within our growing community.
Through successful fundraising and external grant funding, we have secured significant investment to deliver ambitious community projects, allowing us to expand opportunities not only for members but for the wider local community.
Friendship, Community and Wellbeing
At Largs SWI, we are proud to be redefining what a modern women’s organisation can look like — creating a space where women come together to learn new skills, share experiences, build confidence, embrace creativity and form lasting friendships.
More Than a Women’s Institute
We meet on the first Wednesday of each month at The AD Cameron Centre, 17–19 Lade Street, Largs, with weekly Tuesday Coffee Mornings at 11am, alongside a packed calendar of clubs, workshops and social events throughout the year.

Affiliation & Constitution
We are a constituted group that is affiliated to the National SWI and the Ayrshire Federation of the SWI.
Our organising committee is presently made up of 11 members with elections of our senior roles taking place at our June AGM in 2026. The committee meets once per month to discuss matters arising and to review previous and plan future group meetings.
